“Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.”Psalm 86:11
We live in a day and age where there is a continual outright assault on what is True. This comes in many forms, some of which are: “inclusion,” “acceptance,” “social justice,” “equality,” “rights,” relativism, socialism, Marxism and more. Each of these wave a banner of “truth,” yet each of these ideals run in direct contradiction to the Word of God, the only Truth. There are many ideals in this world which offer Hope and Joy and Peace. But anything outside of the One True Gospel leads to death. “There is a way that seems right unto a man, but in the end leads to death” (Pro. 14:12). Each of these ideals, which seem to be “true” are counterfeit. They are a counterfeit gospel and some of them promote a counterfeit Jesus. And the believer must be very discerning when approaching these worldly ideals as to not get entangled into a system which is promoting a gospel contrary to which was brought to the Saints.
In order for the disciple of Christ to know what is True versus what is counterfeit, he must study the Truth. For an expert to spot a counterfeit hundred dollar bill, he knows every single ink mark on the TRUE hundred dollar bill. He studies the TRUE thing. And so when a fake or counterfeit crosses his eye, he immediately knows what is true and what is false. In the same way, we as believers must study the very words of God to know what is True. Otherwise we will be tosses to and fro by the waves of this world (Eph. 4:11-20).
“Teach my your way” — We must desire to be taught the Word of God. “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” Romans 10:14-15The Lord our God has designed the church and called, equipped and raised up men who are to proclaim, teach, herald and preach the Word, so that the Saints in the church can be trained to practice what is True and take this Truth to the world.
“That I may walk in your Truth” — The Lord our God has exclusive rights to what is True. There is no Truth outside of the Absolute Truth of the Word of God. We, as believers in Christ, should desire to Walk in the Truth! But before we can walk, we must be taught what is true.
It is vital to be a part of a biblical community which proclaims and teaches Truth. It is essential for your Christian life to be involved in the local church. There are no Lone Ranger Christians. The entirety of the New Testament sets for the necessity for biblical community for the follower of Christ.
“Unite my heart to fear your name” — The reality of the situation is that our country no longer fears God. As a matter of fact, our “evangelical” churches no longer fear God. We are so flippant about God. We are so casual about our Christianity. Churches no longer fear God in worship. There is no reverence. There is no respect when it comes to the way we worship the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We no longer pursue the Holiness of God. We no longer preach the demands of God. Instead, we water down this idea of a “Christian life” so that anyone can bring their sin into the Kingdom of God instead of repenting and turning away from evil.We MUST unite our hearts to the Truth of the Word and desire to pursue the Holiness of the Lord our God.Would you, like Jonathan Edwards, Resolve in your heart to Walk in the Truth?
