“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
2 Corinthians 5:1
Chapter 5 leads us into verse 20, which says, “we are Ambassadors for Christ…” The Apostle Paul is writing this letter to the Corinthian church and explaining what it means to be an “Ambassador.” Chapter 4, which we will look at soon, explains that even though he has experienced much difficulty in ministry, he “will not lose heart,” because he has this treasure within him that he must share (the Gospel message).
As a professional tentmaker, Paul gives a clear imagery of a “tent” versus an “eternal home.” The tent is temporary. It is moveable based upon where he was in ministry. The tent is fragile and insecure.
This how we must see our life. Temporary. We are not building a mansion here. This earth is not our eternal home. If you are an Ambassador, your home is with Christ.
Pitch a tent. Set your eyes on Christ!
